Good journalism and storytelling are not only engaging and informative, but also inspiring. It should instill a sense of wonder and curiosity about our world, communities and selves.
Growing up — when I would ask my dad why something was the way it was, he would often sigh and answer, "to make little girls ask questions." Despite this, my curiosity has never wavered. I have chosen a career in journalism because it allows me to continue to ask why.
In May of 2010, I'll be graduating from the University of Missouri with a Bachelors of Journalism, a Bachelors of Arts in German and a minor in history.
When I started at the School of Journalism, I knew I wanted ultimately to work in public broadcast. Four years of multimedia training and several internships later, this is still true.
Unlike other media outlets, public television and radio have a unique relationship with their audiences. As a result, they have a unique opportunity to use multimedia to engage viewers and listeners.
